28th Amendment

28th Amendment
Assisted Suicide Legality

Section 1
Any person wishing to end their life due to illness or under reasonable circumstances may alert the courts and have a family member, close friend, or physician’s assistance. The courts must be told where and by who this is to occur.
Section 2
If a person is not sick or have a viable reason or does not alert the courts then the associated members will be charged with manslaughter or murder, depending on how the crime was committed.
Section 3
A document submitted to the court must be witnessed by a police officer or court official so that no one is murdered and the criminal goes unpunished. The person who wishes to commit suicide must sign, in front of said official, agreeing that they wish to not live anymore. They must also have the person who is to assist them sign, agreeing that they will help.

My proposed amendment would make assisted suicide by physician, family member, or otherwise stated person legal in all states and territories under US control. If someone wishes to commit suicide because they are sick or have another viable reason but do not want to carry it out themselves, they can go to the police station or court and submit a document stating that you do, in fact, want someone to assist you in suicide. In your document you must state who is to assist you and where it is to happen.
I believe that this is needed so that people who are sick or dying can die a noble death rather than lying in a hospital bed miserable for months. The US will benefit from this amendment because there will be less people in the hospitals and needing the medications and help which racks up a large amount of bills and then the person dies, leaving the bills unpaid.
I do expect opposition against this potential amendment. There are many people who do not agree with suicide and I am aware that they would try to fight this but I think they simply do not need to be involved with this. They do not have to have an assisted suicide; it’s not required it is just an option.
Some arguments I could use to reply to opposition is a simple question. If you were sick with say cancer that doesn’t respond to any treatment or another incurable disease that will inevitably end your life would you want to spend your last months drawn out in a hospital room feeling like you wish you were dead or have them be happier and you don’t suffer? I would personally rather not suffer. Why wait for your death to come to you when you can control it? Many people cannot carry out this task alone and need someone close to them to help.
